Side-Effects of Hair Loss Medicines

Hairs are one of the important factors in the making of the personality of a person, particularly those on the head. However it may vary from person to person. Typical hair losses are revealed during the fag end of the age of 40's. Though it is a known fact that hair losses are a regular cycle which occurs almost regularly in every person. People from the age of 18-35 care for their hairs the most. They may seem to be bit anxious about it. Some may even lack confidences because of this. Hair happens to undergo three phases in a definite period of time. They include the growth phase, the resting phase and the falling phase. In the growth phase the hair bulb forces itself out of the hair scalp and the hair grows out from the follicles. It continues for about 3-6 months each year. This may be the time when certain hair follicles may also re-grow back to its place. Then comes the resting phase. In the resting phase, the hairs actually do not push itself out from the head scalp, thereby having a rest or steady growth. For that matter the hairs already out may continue to grow as long as it is kept unattended or trimmed. The next and the last phase is the falling phase. This phase is associated with many hairs falling out of the follicle and leaving a gap in between. Many people can't think of this stage as they happen to be very embarrassing when they see lots of hairs being pulled out. However there are many medications available to correct them.

You may want to take note of some of the medications available and its side effects. Many hair loss control medications are available in the market but they may be less usable as compared to the success they offer because there is no specific medicine available to arrest hair loss. Here are two. They are

1. . Minoxydyl: This is a useful lotion which has to be applied daily for two times a day. It causes vasodilatation of the hair follicles and increases the hair growth. They may not be used in cases of psoriases or other scalp related allergies. The known side effect of Minoxydyl is that it has to be applied throughout and if discontinued it may cause the new hair to fall out.

2. Finesteride: It contains 1mg of Propecia which is to be taken orally. This helps in the inhibition of the type II 5Alpha reductase enzyme which is the main producer of DHT i.e. Dihydrotestosterone. DHT causes hairs to become weak in their follicles and also follicles seem to be over reactive to DHT according to studies conducted. It is with some side effects as it may bring a reduction in potency and can also result in reduced semen count. Otherwise it seems to be quite effective.
